About us
At SIAN JACOBs we are proud to adhere to a framework that represents sustainability and social responsibility in the community which has been producing covetable cashmere items for you, our lovely customer since 2008
WEAVE
The ancient art of weaving - the basis for all woven products use hand looms, weaving with a shuttle, forming a warp and a weft, this procedure has been passed on and refined from generation to generation. A single scarf can take up to 4 days to weave on a handloom.
KNIT
Supporting women in the workforce is central to our ethos, the knitting factories we collaborate with overwhelming employ women whose working hours reflect the need for them to get home to prepare the family evening meal, therefore empowering women to support and provide for their families were often times they are the primary earner.
DYE
Achieving our vibrant colours and our dusty, soft neutral shades is a nuanced and traditional art, however environment is everything so we only use metal free dyes and AZO free dyes from Switzerland, all dyes are non-toxic, all water left over from the dyeing process is recycled and filtered for use in the factory garden. Scarves and Knitwear are dyed in small batches in our own unique shades, this keeps wastage minimal.
Mostly our print scarves are screen printed, this is another ancient process thought to have originated in 10th century, China during the Song Dynasty. The print is created by dousing a stencilled screen with dye and dragging a squeegee across it – a process that is fascinating to watch….
